Increase Your Google Rankings and Double Your Site Traffic In Just 10 Steps
- Tweet your posts. ALL of them. Tweeting doesn't only help spread your content, but it can help your SEO efforts. How? If you're tweeting EVERY POST, eventually someone is going to repost. Instant, free backlinks.
- Add an SEO-based call to action (CTA) to the end of your posts. Too many websites owners have posts with no CTA. This is especially true of bloggers, who blog for the main purpose of sharing or educating. But even a blogger should add a CTA. The CTA doesn't have to be selling anything. Look at the bottom of this post to see my CTA (join a mailing list). For people who want to improve their SEO, add a CTA that asks people to repost, comment, or link to your post. Give them incentive to do so. If you need help, consult me.
- Do keyword research before you post anything and everything. Too many times have I found myself spending an hour writing a blog post only to have it fall through the cracks of Google. Actually, it's on Google and ranks #1 for that keyword. It's just that there's no traffic for that keyword. Even if you have a great idea for a blog post, you ought to run it through Google Keywords first. Make sure it gets traffic. Otherwise, you're doing nothing practically for your SEO regardless of the quality of your content.
- Do it whitehat. Whitehat refers to "ethical" SEO practices. That is, doing it the standard way. People who've never heard this term might think, "There's an unethical way." Sure is. It's called blackhat SEO and it'll get you rankings fast. The problem is, Google will catch you eventually and you'll drop from page 1 to page 10. Avoid the temptation to use blackhat methods, such as scraping content and using comment spam to gain backlinks. Many people engage in blackhat unintentionally, by outsourcing SEO work. Whether it be articles or backlinks, cheap outsourcers are likely giving you blackhat SEO results. Stay far away.
- Think long-term. Write your posts to be relevant today and in the future. Posts based on news topics might get you quick links and more searches, but those posts will drop off the map in a week or so. Focus on stuff that will be searchable and useful in the future. The longer your blog is online, the more Google will believe that those old posts are still relevant.
